‘I will arise and go now, and go to Innisfree’ – W.B. Yeats
We are sad to announce that Peter died peacefully at home on the morning on 2 October 2025, following a short illness. His four children, Kate, Emily, Tom and Toby, were all with him by his bedside. He is survived by his wife Chris.
Peter was a pioneering English winegrower, described by leading wine writer Andrew Jefford as ‘England’s emblematic (and very authentic) vigneron’, as well as ‘the father of the contemporary English wine scene’. This year he became the first English winemaker to be awarded the Diploma of Honour by the Fédération Internationale des Confréries Bachiques (FICB).
